WORK

Performance and Choreography
I frequently take on performance and choreography projects. I make dance for fans of queer love stories, for those in the closet, for recovering Catholics, for romantic cowboys, for tender hearts. My spirit of philosophical inquiry shapes my choreographic work, rendering the ordinary poetic and the divine quotidian. Inspired by my own quest to reconcile a conservative religious upbringing with the expansive nature of queerness, my artistic practice explores the joy of the spectrum between whimsy and grit, the distance between ease and rigor. I am interested in dance as lineage and as emancipator from that same lineage. Held together by gesture and stillness, my choreography interrogates structure by breaking it open into improvisation.
Teaching
I am an experienced dance, Pilates, and yoga instructor. In all my classes, I foster an environment where students are not afraid to fail and feel empowered to participate in their own growth. My teaching does not rely on a “one-size-fits-all” perspective, instead centering and honoring the individuality of my students and the cultivation of a class community.

WRITING

published January 2021
Born to break our hearts, these exquisite, dusk-blinding, quotidian and cancer-que poems seem to bruise easily, seem to breathe the language of queerness with such tender accusation, seem so fearless in their candid vulnerability. How can one not love a collection that has the following lines in its last two stanzas: “god is a highchair toddler / who laughs when her feet touch the grass”? or ends one of its poems with this ideal cheekiness: “The Spanish word for dress / is masculine.” These raspberry colored poems here are so smart and so transformative that they are capable of teaching anyone’s tea kettle how to stop sweating entirely.
